Maybe people just want to see them play a whole match together, either as a flashback or current, to see their famed greatness in action.

I actually haven't seen any fans who would dislike their current teams, they seem to be quite popular... But anyhow, if there are people who do dislike their teams, I agree with you, the current teams have a much more healthy environment and more team spirit than Teikou did, and the whole idea of the series is that the characters learn to be better people than they were during those times.
