what does that even mean...?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's similar to say someone is "white-identifying" or calling them an Uncle Tom: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_Negro

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
From Urban Dictionary: "A black person that does their best to please white people even if it means disowning their own racial identity."

Basically Lee called Jackson that when Jackson defended Jackie Brown after Lee threw a tantrum over the usage of the n-word.

LOL and in Django his character is literally "house [n-word]"

That is great

Pretty much the same thing as 'uncle Tom'. A black guy sucking up to the white man to advance his own position.

A house negro was a slave who worked in the master's house, rather than the fields, so they had better living conditions, and were often close to the family who owned them.

Hmm...I haven't seen it, yet, but it occurs to me...doesn't that describe Jackson's character in Django Unchained? Wonder if Tarantino was having a bit of fun at Lee's expense.

YES OMG qt is the best troll

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest that was so long ago I don't think it even occurred to Tarantino.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even like Tarantino, but if that was at all intentional, I give him mad props. A+ trolling.

Damn you beat me to this comment! Ha

Now that someone brings up Lee's comment I'm more than certain that was intentional, at least somewhat

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, Sam Jackson and Tarantino have the kind of relationship where, Tarantino gives him the script, and Sam chooses his part. So he chose to play Stephen.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
so it's possible that it was Jackson having a go at Lee? That makes this even better

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
well, in this case actually QT started out writing Django for SLJ, but then realized that the story he had written fit a younger guy better. So he told SLJ and he siad "well, then I'll play Stephen"
