I'm not going to lie, I have occasionally done that, just to see if the person will say anything. But frankfurter is a pretty common word in English, so I can plead not guilty this time.

yes, that's what I thought then, too (and the reason why I chose that username >.>)!

I didn't even know that people outside of Germany knew them...

They usually don't. I got into them through German people on the internet that I knew through fandom. I've seen a few other fans on the internet outside Germany but they're mostly in Eastern Europe or Scandinavia. I've only seen one in the U.S.

(And I've been wearing my DÄ hoodie around for months here in L.A. and nobody ever says anything.)
