I think that this is both true and not true.

I think that she knows things about him that most other people don't know. But I also that that in her current state she idealizes him as a Dark Hero which isn't really true either.

But I think that he has an idealized image of her and doesn't necessarily really know HER. Like she is the symbolic Lady to him, you know? She's that perfect Lady that was unattainable to him.

Yeah, GRRM did mention that Sandor sees Sansa as pretty much everything he can't have because of his lower station, face, and generally hideous people skills.

One of the promos for the TV series, it's got a clip of GRRM talking about Sandor - I think it was first season.
