Yep. This one has led to me obsessively researching...pretty much everything I get into. I had a 'goth phase' in about eighth grade but never called myself a goth because I just KNEW I didn't know enough about it. (yes I was one of those annoying little shits in Tripp pants and too much eyeliner shouting "I'M NOT A GOTH DON'T LABEL MEEEE".)

/pointless personal anecdote

Anyway, you are not alone. And if it helps any, try to remember that other people often know about the same amount or even less than you about topics you really like to talk about. And if you do get something wrong, most people will be nice and sometimes provide you with more information so long as you don't get defensive about not knowing! So you could come out of a conversation knowing more than you did going in and you won't make that same mistake again. :3
