Re: Falling out of love with The Big Bang Theory
To each their own. The characters are fine conceptually, and the actors are great. I just don't like the writing; it aims too low. It's like knowing Seth McFarlane is capable of really cool stuff yet Family Guy is crappy.
It's a damn shame because a sitcom about nerds should be right up my alley. New Girl is good. They do nerdy jokes. At least there's that.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 06:38 am (UTC)(link)I dunno how close you and your mom are, but
This was kind of insulting because the nerds on the show are kind of mean or completely disfunctional people a lot of the time, is that what she thinks of me?
sounds like something worth talking about
Re: Falling out of love with The Big Bang Theory
Okay. She also wants me to watch Downton Abbey and wedding shows and PBS Mysteries.
I think the issue here is that she thinks I'm a bit odd and assumed the nerd show about nerds would give her some kind of insight into me and my nerdy boyfriend. It's a little bit insulting, but she means well and I know she's proud of me, just perplexed at times.
It's led to some weird conversations. "Hey, Chardmonster, have you heard of steampunk?"
Not every gripe about a person's parents is a sign of a horrible problem.
