Notes:

Sorry, early today!

Also: I'm not going to officially warn for tongue-in-cheek "triggers" just to provide anyone with a fandom-specific in-joke when there are none in the secret.

Look, the trouble is you didn't explain in the secret that you were talking about sled dog movies. I have never actually watched a sled dog movie, and I'm not sure I've seen any movies with more than one husky, so the secret just left me nonplussed.

What you want to do here is say "Ooooops, I didn't realize other people were operating in a different frame of reference" not get defensive and accuse people of poor reading comprehension.

Not OP

I would think the phrase 'look like this' would have been enough to indicate that it wasn't a breed complaint though.

AYRT

I did pick up that it wasn't a breed complaint, which actually made me more confused, because I couldn't think of any movies with multiple huskies available to be stereotyped by their appearances.

Then I found out it was sled dog movies, and it all made sense.

I picked up on the fact that it wasn't a breed complaint, but jumped to the conclusion that it was about eye color.

(I know a couple of people IRL who find blue-eyed dogs creepy/suspicious-looking, so them being stereotyped in films wouldn't entirely surprise me.)

I've seen people mention this about amber-eyes dogs, like weimaraners. Also ran across this quote once:

"I am quite firmly convinced that the frequent prohibition in breed standards against light eyes is due to the fact that dogs with a light eye color look more predatory, like wolves. Light eyes are creepy, they remind us of predators. Can’t have that, can we?"

Personally, I think they're gorgeous. (And have a sneaking fondness for one-blue-one-brown huskies.)

I don't get this response at all. People post secrets ALL THE TIME about fandoms that are really specific and don't always specify what kind of fandom it is. Usually it's more popular fandoms so people don't lose their shit about the fact that they don't recognize it right away.

It's ok for someone to post a secret about a fandom you don't get. It makes sense for them to be posting from a frame of reference that isn't yours. I never saw anyone assume that everyone HAS to get and understand sled dog movies. Hell, I've only ever really watched one; it's not like something I'm super into or anything, but it's ok if OP is. If you don't really watch many things with huskies, why get in on this secret and be so condescending and make so much noise? Why not just say, "Oh, this is a part of fandom I'm not really in, isn't it," and scroll past?

da

because op(?)/anon is being purposefully trolltastic about it

seriously, they admitted it like twice in the thread already

ok that's true and OP is being obnoxious, but does everyone really have to be obnoxious back?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-13 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

oh, definitely not

I was pointing out the reasons, but you're right that the other side isn't making themselves look that great either

AYRT

I'm not! I'm just the person going around saying it makes so much more sense in the sled dog context!

Whenever someone posts an unlabeled secret from a non-mainstream fandom, someone will want to know what on earth they're talking about.

then they can just ask, yikes. No need for people to be such jerks.

I agree there does seem to be a disproportionate amount of venom in many of the responses. It was just a secret lacking one vital piece of information to make it comprehensible. (Comprehensible to me. Some people got it anyway, and it sounds like some people might never get it, but whatever.)
