And as for the spider! I was actually a little surprised that I hadn't featured this beauty before. It definitely deserves a spot here.

Introducing Chrysilla lauta! This elegant little gentleman has his glittering colours to attract females. You'll rarely see them around since their favourite habitats are the rain forests of north Southeast Asia all the way in to the south of China. It's not very big, but it sure packs a lot of looks into a tiny package.

Are geckos the ones where the tail breaks off when you grab it? I miss seeing them around.

The spider is a beauty too. Thank you for the pictures.

Actually, lots of lizards will break their tails off; it's an escape tactic. Their tails will generally grow back without any problems. Sometimes, if the tail didn't completely break off, you'll have a lizard with a double tail.

Like glass lizards right? :D I did some research and geckos were indeed the lizards I was thinking of. It's very rare to see lizards and other reptiles outside of zoos and personal collections where I am now, I really miss seeing geckos and other scaled critters.

#7 looks a lot like the little lizards hiding in the dark nooks in my house that always run and hide if i try to get a closer look

also they make this cute "clak clak clak" noise to "scare me away" if they see me :3

Geckos! I love those little things, they're adorable.

I have a question, though - does anyone have any gecko-catching tricks? I don't want to hurt/traumatise the gecko, I just want to be able to catch and release them elsewhere. Mum's scared of lizards, so... =P I'm always too slow catching them, and then they go hide somewhere and pop out at mum later. Also, I worry about hurting them if I hold them in my hand, especially when they're little babies. *clumsy*

And the spider is very pretty! I'm still not entirely certain about spiders (*still arachnophobic*) but at least the phobia's improved to the point where pictures don't freak me out (much). Thank you very much, cuteanimalpics and jolty! (I particularly love all the information you give, jolty; helps me see the spiders in a more scientific context, which turns them into something to observe, rather than run away screaming from...)

We have those geckos around the porch light at home! They're so cute. :D

And wow, that spider is sooo pretty!

Damn, I love these geckos! I really miss having a couple of these guys around the house (I used to live in south east asia). Having cute spiders around the house just isn't quite the same.

Another former southeast Asian here completely agrees with this whole comment. High five!
