Did all the cat people grow up in cat shelters? But seriously, everybody has dogs, wants dogs, knows dogs, values dogs, may not always take care of their dogs like they should, and I've taken in my share from the streets.

I'm not sure how this comment substantiates the claim that 'it is weird' to not know specific markings for all breeds of dogs, even if one is a dog person. The fact that someone is defending the idea that everyone from 'where they're from' can identify different facial markings of all different breeds is what I was responding to. I don't know what you're responding to. An affection for dogs is not what's being discussed.

Sounds to me like a population that's very familiar with dogs. You saw affection, I saw familiarity and therefore some probable knowledge. If OP lives among people who can pick out one doggy face in a canine crowd, they're going to consider that the norm.
