Sorry, early today!

Also: I'm not going to officially warn for tongue-in-cheek "triggers" just to provide anyone with a fandom-specific in-joke when there are none in the secret.

so i started writing this fic in late october and hit a sort of block mid-november. i haven't worked on it since, but i'm trying to work on it now. unfortunately i left in an awkward spot and i don't know where i was going with it???? sighs

It hurts to know that feel. I sympathize.

A while ago I was looking at my different tabs of fics and I found two paragraphs to an untitled fic I started writing, but I have no recollection writing it, and I have no idea where I was going with the story. It's too bad since it started out kinda nice.

i mean i usually leave my fics mid-sentence and at least i finished this one at a full sentence but ???? i ended last time at a spot where one character was giving off the implication that she understood something that wasn't spoken but i don't remember why she was able to understand it. i have a general idea but i know i had something more specific in mind and it's really frustrating lmao u___u

A couple of months ago I finished a fic that I started in 2006. I had totally abandoned it & forgotten it existed and then I came across the draft file when looking for some meta I'd jotted down at about the same time, and was like 'wow this dialogue is usable'.

fwiw my friend is trying to get a no-pressure fic writing goals place started over here, just needs a google account to log in.

Been there. Sometimes I'll go back to find I stopped in mid-sentence even. And I have no idea what I was thinking or even going with that sentence or thought or anything. I usually just re-read everything, say fuck it, and start with a new thought.

literally me tbh. i'm still stuck mid-sentence in one of my original fics.

I have written a couple nc-17 fics but they've been for kink memes and I've never deanoned.
But now I wrote this new smut fic and I'm nervous about posting it. I might just make an anon request on the kink meme and post it there so at least I managed to share it.

Do it! I absolutely think you should do it.

I've done that from time to time.

My current 'what the hell was I thinking?' is not a 'I can't remember'... I realized as I started the story (which I was very excited about, as it used characters love but hadn't yet used (original, not fanfic, I just created the characters long ago)), then I realized...this is going to require tons of flashbacks, and nobody wants to read a story half-told in flashback. v_v

the fic i'm working on right now has some flashbacks to help define the state of the characters but they're not canon flashbacks so i'm not worried about boring readers or whatever. if it helps the story i say go for it.

eta: by canon i meant canon in the fandom my fic is about since it's fanfiction

i've taken to write down an outline at the bottom just in case this happens

(it doesn't help every time, but at least it's something)

I know you pain. I'm at a very important fight scene in the last chapter of my current WIP, but I really suck at writing fight scenes of any kind. I think I'm managing, but it is very slow going.

Edit to add: When I've left a fic for a while, usually the only thing that helps me is going back and rereading the entire fic... I end up doing that a lot.

i suck at fight scenes too. i've gotten a little better but i still don't really like writing them, especially in certain settings. back when i was writing one of my primary original works there was a fight scene at the end and instead of writing a shitty fight scene i just put *fight scene goes here, serious shit happens* and kept writing lmao. i'm rewriting the whole story now anyway, so i guess it didn't matter in the long run, but we'll see how it turns out this time.

eta: also yeah i reread the fic i'm working on now and just kind of bs'd what i forgot. i just really wanted to get past it and i think the quality suffered for it, but i'm a notorious editor so no doubt i'll go back and fix it later anyway.

When it comes to fight scenes I get great visuals in my head of what is happening. The problems start when I have to turn that into words... But then that kinda goes for all my writing.

Oh, man...fight scenes. I totally suck at those too.

(I am fairly proud of the one in my most recent story, since it was one person against 6, and she had to take them down individually and quietly, so that made it a lot easier than trying to write a melee...)
