Notes:

Sorry, early today!

Also: I'm not going to officially warn for tongue-in-cheek "triggers" just to provide anyone with a fandom-specific in-joke when there are none in the secret.

Moving Advice?!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-01-12 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I moved from SC to OK ~3 years ago. I flew out to live with my mom and sister. Because I flew I had to leave most of my things behind. Can anyone think of the most economical way to get my stuff moved from SC to OK? It is a lot of books, knick knacks, photos, etc. I might be able to go down in May and U-Haul it back (though my sister's car doesn't have a hitch). If that is the only option, is U-Haul the go to company?

Check craigslist for rideshares. Sometimes they'll be willing to haul your stuff instead/alongwith you for the price of gas. The odds of someone heading right to your town might be low but at least worth a shot. Or you could make a posting too.

U-Haul pretty much is the go-to company, but a word of caution: U-Hauls get broken into a lot, so if that's your moving plan, bring at least a couple people with you (so someone can always be watching the truck) and be very careful about leaving it alone overnight. If it was me and I was making that sort of a move, I'd hire a moving company--they usually have better insurance for stolen goods.

I'd recommend a moving company. They tend to have better insurance, and they'll have a better idea of what they're doing [if they're a good company], and have more experience driving with that type of vehicle.

Plus, if you have access to a truck, I'd grab the stuff that you *really* don't want to lose and haul it in that/inside the car if possible.

Books can go media mail, which is a pretty good deal. You can also send stuff by Amtrak, which might be cheaper than the post office, depending on weight.
