They didn't write it very well, I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out. (I don't really think comparing it to racism is a good idea, but I did read "stereotypes [are] there for a reason" when I first read that comment which is generally not a great thing to say)

"this stereotype is there for a reason" is the same thing as saying "stereotypes are there for a reason" because the fuck, what stereotype doesnt have reasons behind it, there are always reasons

its a shitty thing to use as a defense or justification of media portrayals no matter what they are
