People thought it was the end of fandom and bitched incessantly when we made the move from mostly offline to mostly online. People bitched when fandom started to drift over to LJ/IJ/JF and other journaling platforms from list serves, message boards, and mailing lists.

Except fandom's basic structure stuck around through almost all of these, and they still centered around people talking to one another, not talking at an echo chamber or blasting pretty pictures at each other mindlessly.
