I've stopped being surprised by what Mark likes/doesn't like, picks up on/doesn't pick up on. But it's OK, OP! You're not alone in liking the Buffy movie! It's awesome in its own way.

I haven't been able to stand him since he finished the Twilight series (and there were points during that where I couldn't help but roll my eyes)

The end of the Twilight series recap was... weird. I hate Twilight but don't fancy imagining SMeyer's characters being tempted to murder her. She wrote a crappy romance novel that somehow got a huge fanbase, and that's the end of it.

I liked the Harry Potter recaps a whole lot but I've come to accept they they were an essentially unique, lightning-in-a-bottle situation, where the fact that he came in expecting to hate it but ended up loving it created this really sincere, amazing response. I don't think anything else has been so good because it doesn't have the same spontaneity. I'll still check Mark Reads when he's doing something that I like, but eh.

Jesus is that site still a thing? Figured it'd die out by now.

He's got a nice little cadre of sycophants who will lick his ass and buy videos of him watching shit. A while back he was crying because he had to scale back "Mark Plays" because it's just so hard and stressful watching all this TV and writing about it while otherwise unemployed save the novel he's trying to write AND play video games (for the people!)!

But now he's going "on tour," so it couldn't have been too damaging or morale killing. Basically it'll never die.

His Twilight and Fifty Shades stuff was funny, but I find that a lot of his stuff is hit-or-miss. I kind of think that for a lot of online reviewers, though. There are very few that I find consistently good, and even for those people, I don't always agree with their opinions. Sometimes it can be annoying when people have different opinions, too, depending upon how they present them, and I find that Mark-type online reviewers tend to present their views in a way that implies anyone who disagrees is wrong.

i groaned when i saw that he was going to watch and review my main fandom. not that i think he'll dislike it but his fans are so batshit and i'm selfish in that i don't want them anywhere near here.

What fandom?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-15 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
oh no it's not homestuck is it

or adventure time

Mark is a self-absorbed, self-important idiot who is forever trying police everyone around him and CONSTANTLY talks about how each episode relates to how horrible his life is, even if the stories start to contradict each other.

I'm still in self-imposed MW exile (helped along by being kicked out of comments...it's just not as much fun if you can't be part of the conversation) but don't worry about it. I mean, it really is okay to have a different opinion. You're not a Mark clone.

I don't get why so many people are so engrossed in what this one random dickhead thinks of books/shows in so much detail. I hardly give that much of a crap about my friends' opinions on these things.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-15 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really care about Mark, but generally, the appeal for me is that I can have the illusion of discussing a book with someone when there's nobody interested in discussion.

I get a bit sore when people don't answer to comments though. I mean, if you get 50 per post, then I understand why you wouldn't answer them, but if it's less than ten? Aren't you putting up your reviews because you want to discuss them with someone?
