But they spend most the the game as 30-pixel tall sprites, so you can't really see the stupid character design that much.

The girl is cue, but wtf happened to the guy. The male character from BW was the first one I wanted to play as since... well, Red in Gen I. I thought I'd play him in the "Gray" edition.

And then this guy came along. What a downgrade.

But the guy from XY looks nice again (because he basically looks like the guy from BW) so I'm conflicted again.

Plus, you can catch wild Eevees.

Plus Iris got really badass.

Mei's visor looks like a giant sanitary pad tied to her forehead... but I don't get the sentiment, at all. Who plays Pokémon games to look at the characters? Whatever, though. Your loss, I guess.

(And I think Kyouhei is adorable, in a hot-mess sort of way.)

To be honest I don't like BW2's player character designs. I personally prefer the more "tomboy" girls, like Hilda/White, Crystal, and May/Sapphire (I like Dawn too, she's an exception). And Nate... looks kinda silly... but I prefer his design over Rosa's. I always play as the character that's the same gender as me, though, so I had to use her. It grows on you, I guess? ...Kind of? Don't miss out on a good game because of the "eh" character designs, OP.

I like her design except for the shorts, which are just hideous. But ita about the guy - his design sucks overall.

*I think she's the girl from B2 - what even is her name? - is the only character not wearing some kind of hat or headwear. Except maybe Kris?

i hate the designs too but i found that they didn't impact my enjoyment of the game at all. to each their own but i'd recommend playing it anyway.

Yeah, I always wondered what the artist was thinking. They're supposed to be player avatars, so why not design them in a way that more players could relate to? (Or is there actually a fashion for visors/shorts over leggings/etc. in Japan?)

I don't even play Pokemon, but to be honest Pokemon protags tend to look kind of ridiculous. And their clothing always looks like it's stuck in the nineties.

These two don't look any better or worse than previous ones.

Let's be real, trainer designs have been getting progressively more ridiculous for a while now. Especially the hair. I actually like it - but then, I think I'm about the only person who doesn't "self-insert" onto the trainers, so their designs don't really seem any different to me than any other JRPG protagonist.

Although I did laugh like a hyena when that Plasma grunt says the rival's hair looks like a Qwilfish.

I'm not all that fond of their designs either (Touya and Touko were so cute and these two are kind of derp, IMHO), but if it helps, the gameplay is wonderful in the games themselves! I didn't like the plot as much as B/W, but it is a great plot nonetheless and awesome to play through. I love, love, love all the things the game added. Join Avenue, Medal Rally, World Tournament, hidden grottoes, the new areas, dropped item subplot, and so on... It's super fun!

I had 200+ hours on Black, and I have almost 200 hours on White 2 already, so that tells you how much fun I've had with it. :D
