And what sort of reaction did the work get?

Personally I've done it twice, one got a mild reception, the other quite a lot of buzz, more than I would've expected.

I tried taking Alpha Brain.

It... certainly did stuff! But none of that stuff actually helped with my focus.

I've written while drunk before but it's not much different than my sober writing. In the end the only thing that works for me is just forcing myself.

Idk about reactions, I rarely share my writing.

I don't drink and haven't gotten high before but I certainly question myself when I see some of the secrets I post.

I tend to write high a lot; it helps me focus more, and I don't second guess what I'm writing so much. But I write for smaller fandoms and very rarely write romance, so I don't notice any difference in views or comments no matter how I do it.

It's not something I mention when I post my stuff though; my state of mind when I'm writing doesn't really matter with the finished product, so I don't want to be one of those douchebags that brags he's high all the time.

Sometimes when I'm stuck on something it really helps to come back to it mildly drunk, because the getting rid of inhibitions deal, for me, also applies to writing.

And then in the editing process, most of the writing that I did while drunk gets reworked - the point for me is not to produce excellent writing, it's to get past things, and it usually works great.

OP Same, if I can't get past a plot point while sober or caffeinated, drunkenness will usually solve it.

I have written while drinking before but I have never drank specifically in order to write.

My writing is generally better when I have not been drinking (and as a writing teacher, I tend to suspect that is true of just about everyone).

I like to write porn after having one drink, two at the most. :) I'm not a big fan of alcohol, but usually that's enough to make me happy enough to write porn without much overdoing it.

And it gets some pretty decent feedback, but seriously, it's porn. Porn is usually received well.

I've tried writing stuff while drunk. It gets weird fast. Especially when I'm touchscreen typing. Last time I was trying to write a spectacularly smutty John/Sherlock phonesex thing that got disturbing fast, which knowing BHG probably would have been just fine with her, but halfway through I started rambling about some caveman au for Community. Both remain unfinished.

I've written some of my best fanfic while extremely sleep-deprived and caffeinated (granted, I had to edit the fuck out of it later, but the ideas and imagery and dialogue turns just poured out in such a way that I kinda impressed myself), but I've never written drunk and I've never been high.

I write papers for my classes while drunk, and edit sober. I come up with clever ideas that way. So in terms of the reception from my profs, very good!

I've never written while high but like many adults I sometimes have a drink in the evenings and I also sometimes write in the evenings. It can be a good opportunity to get something charged and difficult done (an action scene or a sex scene or similar) but I sometimes find it creates problems later - like, I find it hard to pick my work up again while sober and continue/edit it because it's harder to get a feel for the mindset I was in when I started. But in general it's a normal part of my life and I'm so LOL at people who find it shocking.

Honestly? Despite my comments in that thread, I rarely do this. I usually get most of my ideas while I'm at work. I blame it on the mundane nature of my work. That's why I make sure to keep a little notebook and sketchbook in my purse at all times

i've written drunk / edited sober on some of my fics. not like flat out drunk though, just a little tipsy. i have the tendency to wordvomit more than i do while sober.

i've also written on lsd before. it's a really interesting state of mind and i wouldn't mind repeating the experiment sometime.
