I kind of have to agree with the OP in that there are plenty of badly written and cliched fanfics out there for the Hobbit (with lots of poor characterization which just breaks my heart).

However! There are also quite a few longer, more well written and better characterized fics. You just might have to look a bit harder (I would suggest AO3 rather than the kinkmeme)

So don't give up hope OP!

Yup, agreed. I know there's some shit fic out there (like there is for any fandom, especially considering the movie has only been out for this long), but there's some seriously good fic out there for it too.

It also depends on what OP is interested in too, though.

The thing is, AO3 is my go-to and I generally don't frequent kink memes (just not my kinda thing most of the time), so the fic I'm talking about is actually mostly from AO3 (sorry to the Hobbit authors on AO3, no offence meant!). It's a good suggestion, though :) And patience in my searching does seem to be the key with this fandom.
