How do you explain death to a child? What do you say? Asking because my daughter's fish just died and she's four years old and I haven't had that conversation with her yet.

I work in a library and these two books are very good for just that. Saying Goodbye to Lulu is about a death of old age, so as lovely as it is it might be for later. The Tenth Good Thing About Barney is about the sudden death of a pet. They're both very simple and tender and put a positive spin on saying goodbye.

Just give a simple, awkward explanation. That the fish is dead, this happens when fish get old and it won't be coming back. Maybe throw in about they have to be real old (i didn't do this and my sister was very concerned about our grandparents for awhile)
