Breast Reduction Surgery TW: Eating Disorder

[personal profile] supermanda 2013-01-15 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Has anyone here had it? I've always wanted it, since I was 12 years old. My back is getting worse and worse. I developed an eating disorder in hopes my boobs will get smaller, that's how desperate I've always been. I'm starting to feel going down that route is a good idea again :( I just can't take it anymore. My back even hurts when I'm lying down at times.

Are you sure you're wearing the right kind of bra?

I can never tell. My breasts fluctuate like crazy. They go from 36C to 36D all the time. I can't go one full week without needing a different sized bra. I'm pretty sure I have a hormone imbalance or something.

I don't know what to do :/ every time I bring this up to someone, they throw the "so many women would die for boobs like yours, you should be grateful!" and it just aggravates me.

I'm guessing you're supermanda? I'm currently a 36 DDD and I just got home from a double shift immediately followed by classes and my back twinge went away about ten minutes after I laid down. It definitely sounds like something else is going on. Have you tried strengthening your core? Sorry if I'm being dumb...

Wow, that's not very large. I mean, it's larger than average but not LARGE. Unless you're petite (are you?)

Your back pain might be related to something else. You should see a doctor about it, they can determine what's causing it. It could be posture or something like hunching over in chairs and not standing up straight. I realize that can be hard to do with large boobs (mine are larger than yours) but it can be done. When I realized I was sitting in chairs all wrong and corrected my sitting posture it did WONDERS for my back pain, specifically the upper back and neck area. I hardly have any at all anymore.

Your pillow might also be the culprit -- I'm not saying it's not your boobs because it absolutely could be, but you should probably rule out all other causes of back pain before getting any kind of corrective surgery

Some people's breast tissues swell before they have their periods. Mine are between B and C so usually Bs are fine. I absolutely have to wear the C cup bras before my period though.

Also, rule out other causes of back pain before getting surgery. Surgery is risky business and I personally believe it shouldn't be done unless it's neccesary.

Have you seen a doctor about your back pain? Even when my boobs were at their most ridiculous I didn't have pain as bad as yours seems.

I imagine you don't need to get that desperate as I think insurers will generally cover a medically necessary reduction (it's also tax-deductible if it's a medical need rather than cosmetic). At any rate seeing someone about your back pain & finding out if it's boob-related seems like a good first step?

Have you talked to a doctor about the back pain? Because if it's actually causing health issues a lot of the time a doctor will sign off and your insurance will cover a reduction. It depends on your frame and size of breasts and how much damage they're causing. If you have health insurance, that is.

I have. If you have health insurance, you need to make an appointment with your doctor, and ask for a referral. Tell them you have back pain, make sure it gets logged. You may have to go to a chiropractor if your insurance will cover it (I did not, but that was just because my were just *that* big, and I had a couple of years of back pain complaints logged by the Doctor. If you have these also, you may be able to skip that step.)

When you get your referral all sorted out, you'll have to go to several different visits, where the doctor will take a look at your chest, and go over your options, mostly concerning the nipple area.

Also, your insurance probably will want to know what else you've done to minimize back pain, so keep a log of how often you take medication for it (and how much you have to take at one time), and anything you get done (back massages, chiropractic services, whatever).

You are highly likely to lose feeling, and I will never be able to breast feed because of the way that they did my surgery, but I think it's worth it, it might be for you too, but it's something to think about.

The surgery is pretty quick; I was in at seven in the morning, and out by noon. You'll have bandages for a while, and you won't really have good use of your arms. I'd suggest stocking up on button up shirts/zip up hoodies.

Because it should just be surgery into skin/fat, it shouldn't take that long to heal (if I remember correctly); I had my surgery on the first day of winter break (a December 7th), and I was able to go to school when it started up again with no problems. (I'm pretty sure I was okay before that; I think I went to a Christmas event, but I honestly can't remember.)

They *will* give you pain medications that will cause you to forget a *lot* of the healing process. It's nice. :D (Though it makes that time period kind of fuzzy to me, sorry.)

Also, during the healing process, I slept in a recliner. I can't remember why, I think it was so I wouldn't have to lever myself in an out of bed, but... ^^; You might want to ask your surgeon if that's something you should do or not.

After your surgery, you'll have two drainage things in you boobs still, and you'll have to drain the blood occasionally, and keep track of how much.

Also, go to all your follow-ups, but have someone else take you; driving will be basically impossible thanks to your meds/the after-effects of the surgery.

Lastly, you may end up with fluid under your arms. That's normal, and it will take a second surgery to fix. I haven't been able to do so yet as my Mum lost her job (and thus the insurance I was on), but I'm hoping to get it done eventually.

(Note, all of this is from my own surgery, and depending on the doctor, it may not be accurate, but I hope it's useful! If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.)
