Author's Choice, Must-Read Tolkien Fanfiction.
Then I put some on Delicious that were primarily my choice:
Delicious Recommendations.
And on a Pinboard, which I intend to use from now on and will update every so often.
Pinboard Recc’s.
I think I was lucky; I came into the fandom in 07 as a long-time reader of Tolkien who expected the fanfic to be mature and good quality, and I found it. Yes, there are rubbish stories, but I was always drawn toward the good ones, and nowadays I read more fanfic than original fic, simply because it gives me what I want.
The writers I read tend to be mature, and many of them have been writing since before they ever discovered fanfic, so their work is extremely professional. I will read anything, any Age as long as it's good, and I don't have any real ships that I follow, so my recc's are just based on the quality of the story. I am not sure about the first list, as I simply asked for recc's, and had not read all of them, but I recognize a lot of the names as belonging to writers who are frequently praised, and were award winners, when the MEFA's were still running.
