Frankly, I think CGI was an absolutely atrocious choice for a show set on modern-day Earth, because it resulted in a disturbingly empty planet. I mean, they go to New York and only meet one other person. Nevermind that there only seem to be, like, ten people living in Jasper. Not to mention how there's a shit-ton of alien technology hanging around right out in the open it seems, and nobody's ever noticed it until the Transformers got there??

At least past CGI shows like Beast Wars worked their limitations into the setting (ie. prehistoric Earth means no expectation of several billion humans chilling around).

Compare TFP to Rescue Bots. RB may be a much kiddier show, but it provides a town that feels like an actual town, full of people and colorful characters. Also, I think it does significantly than TFP at characterization and actually following up on plot points. Frankly, other than animation (RB has really simple, cheap-looking art and animation), I think RB is a generally superior show than TFP.

I agree with everything you said. I've never been a fan of CGI. Yes, it's pretty to look at, but only in stills or as feature-length movies where they have the budget to make it shine. It does not replace good old hand-drawn cartoons which have far fewer limitations.

I want to hug you for the Rescue Bots comment because that show needs more love. Pretty much everything with this set of comments. Season Two of Transformers Prime has been a veritable waste of plot potential. It's basically like they're setting up a story and/or character arc, build it up, conclude it, then resort back to status quo with none the worse for wear and little to no consequences. The frustrating thing is that this largely affects the Autobots (because the Cons actually do have a slightly better continuity) and given they're the central characters, it's maddening.

Man, Breakdown, I wish I could have been more interested in you. Season One provided hints of a deeper character underneath that could have made me like him, but alas, no. But I do love Knock Out and until Season Two expanded on his cray-cray personality (which I loooooove), I actually can accept his shallow personality because he himself is shallow! Okay, I admit this is partially bias; Knock Out is my favorite character in the show, though it doesn't save it from its mediocrity.

Rescue Bots may not have the ambition, but I always watch a show for its character first, story second, and RB is filled with vivid personalities and amazing chemistry from the cast. Also Blades. Love Blades. Forever.
