Oh. Unless you have evidence to the contrary, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. Probably neither of them realize what it sounds like. If you're really worried maybe talk to him?

I've seen it happen too, in the same age group

I think the best the guy can do is to not encourage anything that could be considered untoward, and try to steer conversations into safe topics

the one good outcome of that attention is that the girls do really listen to the guy, so if one has a problem at home or something they might trust him enough to listen to his advice
