NOPE, I WILL DEFEND THE SQUID UNTIL THE DAY I DIE.

The movie ending makes LESS sense if you actually think about it: if your plan is to make all the countries of the world band together in the spirit of peace and harmony against an extraterrestrial threat, why would you make it one that was created by one of the countries, and especially the one that everyone already hates?

And yes, I realize the plan is doomed to failure either way, but when the fatal flaw goes from "entropy exists and people will always ultimately default to chaos" to "uh, everyone's going to fucking hate America even more now, dude," that's just stupid. WAY TO GO, ADRIAN.

ETA: Basically, put another way, it takes it from "I am too much of an optimist to run the world successfully" to "let's escalate the nuclear threat for no reason!"

But what are they going to band together against? The ocean? It was a giant squid. Perhaps aquaman *narrows eyes*

It was an alien monster from the unknown, that's the whole point. They can't waste time, money, and resources fighting amongst themselves when something worse is out there and is a threat to all of them (says Adrian's thinking).

If you're just like, BUT IT'S A SQUIIIIIIID... I guess maybe they could have come up with something ~cooler~ for the movie, but making it Dr. Manhattan was a terrible choice that completely undermined both the character of Adrian and the ideal he was trying to pursue.
