Aww, I kind of want the Riza wank!

I didn't realize there were corners of FMA:B fandom that were NOT about appreciating the awesome ladies.

It sounds to me like the Riza wank is more about whether she qualifies as an Awesome Lady, not about whether Awesome Ladies deserve to be appreciated.

That said, it looks like people have already tried to start it up and nobody's really taking the bait, so...*shrug*

People are saying or implying that she doesn't qualify as a badass woman, whether it's because of her character or because she's not portrayed independently enough.

idk, I haven't seen Brotherhood (yet).

Weird. I never saw very much of the first series so my impression was that she doesn't have much character development besides, "strong, silent, loyal, good with a gun." Manga/brotherhood Riza has that but also has a lot of contradictions and people seem to have trouble knowing what to do with a character like that (especially as a woman).

It's more because I don't have a definite opinion on Riza, so I'm not the one to defend her. And also because I like Lan Fan, who's lots more problematic and defined by a man than her. Oops.

I haven't watched Brotherhood so I don't know how that fandom is like, but the manga fandom seemed to sorta like them in a secondary way yet not enough to do fanworks or talk much about them beyond ships. Fandom being fandom, most people seemed more male-centric as usually expected.

I recommend fma_ladyfest then.

I'm probably touchy because I've written like 100,000 words about Riza which I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able do if she weren't problematic aka interesting.

Though I have a lot of issues with "the fandom" at large, too, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised people have that impression.
