My favorite adaptations
-Holes
um... more than I can't remember atm. OH, Howl's Moving Castle. i read the book first and thought it highly mediocre. The movie, though, was transcendent.
Re: My favorite adaptations
But yeah while I really don't like the film version of Howl's Moving Castle Studio Ghibli's Arietty is probably the best adaptation of The Borrows to date and definitely the best cinematic version. <3
the teal deerness of this, jfc
there's an ethereal quality to the film that i really, really dig (miyazaki's visuals are a gift) and that wasn't present in the DWJ castle series (which is my favorite of DWJ's worlds). i like the way it integrates howl to the universe, turns him into a force of nature more than a wizard.
however, it's not as great at making sophie come across as a force of nature.
i saw the film first and my impression was that we were supposed to believe sophie's love saved howl and calcifer. but no! she's literally a life giver! and that's a more interesting idea to me.
the beauty of howl/sophie is that they are a powerhouse couple, i lahv them so much.
