Oh god yeah, I remember seeing that comment on fandom_wank. RTD in general really grinds my gears in person - I know I don't know him personally and he might just not interview well, but he always comes across as really arrogant and insensitive and generally petty and assholish.

Dunno how credible it is, but I've heard from more than one source that a big part of the reason Eccleston left after just one series was the way RTD and Phil Collinson behaved.

Oh I think Chris Eccleston has said it himself! He said the set was very bullying and he tried to intervene. He hated it. Interesting because he has worked with RTD before, but it would have been before RTD had his big success, so maybe he was better. Also I think in the acting world, actors take a lot of bullying and nastiness because it's a ruthless business. Chris E probably got to an age and point in his career where he could afford to reject it.

Shame because Nine was my favourite of the new who Doctors.

I always felt RTD was incredibly pompous on those behind the scenes shows, both the TW and DW ones. Then he came across so badly after CoE.

He's admitted Miracle Day was shit though, and did badly critically and in ratings. I was surprised to see that he acknowledged that.

Everything the above anon said. I've definitely heard the behind the scenes environment in at least the early stages of nuWho was nightmarish and that RTD was generally a really awful person to work with (and he's always come across as unbearable and condescending to the point of offensiveness to me in interviews and personal statements too, fwiw, so you're not alone).

On the other hand, part of the reason I loved Nine so much is that he got a really great tight satisfying character arc without any opportunities for his character to get jerked around afterwards (*cough cough* Four *cough* Ten and Eleven *cough*)...so it's possibly a blessing in disguise.

Above anon, yes that's true about Nine, shame though, even one more series would have been great.

Agreed about Four and Ten and Eleven. I love Four, but that's because I hid behind the sofa as a child and watched his episodes, so it's sentiment. Even then though, as young as a I was, I didn't like Four after Sarah Jane left because he seemed different. So yeah.
