AO3 is more het friendly because the average age of writers over there is so much younger that it's never occurred to them to write anything yet that isn't basically Mary Sue self-insert.

My evidence?

The overwhelming number of "Our hero meets a plucky teenage girl who will change his life" stories.

Even in fandoms that have great female characters 'you'll still see our hero + his plucky teenage girl' rather than the actual women in canon.

-- A het fan who can't find anything to read at the Pit that's actually about the canonical female characters.

I'm pretty sure this poster meant to type the Pit and not AO3 as this is my experience too.

Still, the typo is funny. ;-)
