I used to work for Chuck E. Cheese. Your icon made me want to cry in terrible memories of repeating songs and having to be in the Chuck E. Cheese costume.

Hate that place now. ; ;

6. Dear god I love Deidara. Those little 'un' sounds are such a turn on. No idea why. He's currently 3rd on my 'to cosplay' list of people. XD

It's not that they're screaming fanbrats; in fact I've met some extremely intelligent and well-behaved thirteen-year-old girls at cons. It's just that I feel, well, weird and out of place being one of the oldest people in the room. (Not to mention it's sort of uncomfortable when you hear "oh, aren't those CARTOONS for KIDS?" all the time from people who aren't into anime as a hobby, and then you go to a con and it's... full of kids.)

Of course they have a right to be there. But I'd also really like to hang out with people around my own age who are into the things I like--that's the main reason I go to cons (aside from the cosplay)--and it's getting difficult to find them at the cons I've been attending. That's all I'm saying.

OP of 22

You've nailed it, there. I mean, I would have killed to go to a con at 13--surrounded by fellow nerds, omghooray!--but now that I'm an older fan, my tastes have changed, my ideas about series have changed, I like to talk about different stuff. I'm glad that anime and manga have become more popular, but I'm also a little saddened that it's getting harder for me to connect with people my own age face-to-face, you know?

I haven't run into too many "fanbrats", thank goodness, and I love to talk to the con moms and dads I run into. I just don't want to have to rely solely on the interwebs for meeting people in my age bracket who like the things I like. :/

I think the con audience has aged down a little, as far as I can tell; a lot of that probably has to do with the fact that manga and anime are much easier to get at now than they were when I was getting into it.

One of the biggest bummers for me, though, is simply not being able to find fans who've heard of some of the older series I like (especially Slayers).

But I agree with you on the dealer's room. It's so great not having to borrow from parents or friends to buy stuff. :)

Hahahahahahha. It's from a doujinshi scan. It's pretty awesome imo.

5) I never liked Relena and will never like her, and it has nothing to do witht he yaoi. I see her as contraddictive, and she become a pacifist suddendly, only after knowing she's a peacecraft. It has no sense at all, and I find it stupid. I can clearly remember that in a fight between zechs (his brother, though she didn't know that at the time, ahn) and Heero she said to Heero "don't let him go, Kill him!".
Thinking she became a pacifist after that... no sense at all, really.

19) Then why don't you wish to have unrealisticly big eyes and strange propotions as well? Not to offend you, but wanted to be like, even just because of he/her's skinny, an anime chara, is anything but bright.

14) Akane a minor? ò_o I remember Akane being a very important character ò_o

18. Dear secret poster, please tell me more about this fandom. The art style is fantastic and I am curious. Also I love slashing everything so you've got a good chance of achieving your dream if you just tell me about it...

Don't compare something to 4chan unless you know what 4chan is, shit-for-brains.

protip: it has pictures

19: Check into a fucking mental hospital right now. I mean now, as in turn your fucking computer off and go. Don't come out until you can tell the difference between real life and cartoons. jesus christ.

Retards like you are the reason why mainstream news points its finger at video games/anime/whatever every time some nutball who played GTA once or twice shoots somebody.

tl;dr: GET HELP AND STOP BLAMING YOUR MENTAL PROBLEMS ON ANIME.

The good thing about starting with small fandoms it gives you the opportunity to gradually move up to bigger fandoms. Because if you already have a following and you start talking about and moving towards participating in , some of those fans will move with you, which makes you more noticeable in your new fandom.

It's very hard to become a BNF in an established large fandom. The Harry Potter fandom probably has the most famous BNF but that fandom wasn't that big when they started gaining their fans (notice they're all gone now too, BNF status doesn't last forever, even in big fandoms). If lucky you can find a small fandom that will become large.

But to become a BNF of a large fandom, without working your way up, can be done. One way is to find a large fandom that is in decline, which has a lot of it's main people leaving. When a fandom is in decline there's always a bunch of people who don't want to let go, therefore if someone jumps in and starts posting a lot they'd probably move up to BNF status fairly quickly simply because everyone will know them as the person who's trying to save the fandom.

The other way to become a BNF in a large (and active) fandom is to stick with your OTP. Most pairings have their own separate comm (this was even true back during the old mailing list days), which are smaller than the main fandom comms but still around the size of a medium sized fandom. Squee like crazy whenever your chapter/show/book is released and you see something on your OTP, if your OTP is non-canon post wild theories on how it will become canon or on how it doesn't need to be canon, rec all kinds of fic and art, etc.

[identity profile] rekallthegreat.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the most popular pairing in the fandom.

Seriously, the Syaoran/Sakura comm (which includes CCS) only has 186 members. The KuroFay comm has 1487 members! There are more members in the KuroFay comm than there are members in the main TRC comm (that has 1279 members).

It's so popular it gets a lot of batshit insane fans, which leaves the sane fans (hi!) frustrated because the idiots are ruining it for the rest of us.

[identity profile] factorielle.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! Hell, even I am in the comm, although mostly in a distant 'I have to follow Tsubasa to get what's going on in Holic anyway, so I might as well get the porn while I'm at it' way. But some of the fandom does look... scary. (Thankfully, it hasn't reached the point where when I meet a KuroFay fan I assume they're crazy, but I'm getting worried it'll get there soon, what with recent developments in canon.)

I agree, I loved Rem so much. I was alos more affected by her death then L's.

Ahahahahha!

Man, thank god there's someone else who doesn't like it - everyone else I know is crazy about it, and I keep wondering if I'm missing something. The music just sounds so soulless and manufactured to me ;_;

[identity profile] zoom-gas.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha
my ex used to work there too @_@

(Anonymous) 2007-08-30 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no. Sorry for the confusion.

The secret means that I say Akane's my favorite because Kasumi's such a minor character and Ranma-chan's not even really a character at all.

(Anonymous) 2007-08-30 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a fan-art, not a manip.

[identity profile] repeatvoffender.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude. I've been trying to explain that to anyone willing to listen for years now. Most people that are willing to listen already agree though.

[identity profile] repeatvoffender.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My thoughts exactly.

Which has a lot to do with why I prefer the anime to the manga.

Re: 17

[identity profile] linen-tartaruga.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It really is sad, isn't it? You'd think, if they loved the series that much, they'd at least take the time to pay attention to it enough to realize that, in the anime at least, none of the popular ships are canon.

[identity profile] eli-artemisia.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you very much. I've been trying my hand at icon making, and this is from the first set I made. There's more on my journal as well, and you're welcome to them :)

[identity profile] eli-artemisia.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, silly me. I thought you meant the Maka Maka one, but the Edvy's mine too XD
