Me too! If protection isn't mentioned in het, I worry through the whole sex scene and might spend the rest of the fic expecting a "suprise" baby. It's not exciting to me, it's nerve-wrecking :(

Definite YMMV. I always just handwave it in my head by assuming the female character is on the Pill or has an IUD or something. No biggie.

Same here. But then most of the female characters in the fandoms I frequent would logically be on some form of birth control due to the very not-child-friendly jobs and such.

Either that or I assume (in longer term FwB situations) the guy's been snipped.
