Eschewing the Pr0n
(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)When I was a littl'un on the internet, I was a big rule follower (also Catholic), so I never read anything marked NC-17 or went into web-rings marked 'adult'. Basically, I self-policed and never read anything with teh sex until I was old enough that I felt comfortable with it.
I would still say that between the ages of 13 and 15 I read well over a thousand fics for my OTP (and I only read shippy fic and only for one pairing).
BUT this was in around 1998-2000. Everything was on Geocities webrings, and everyone had their stuff rated and divided.
Would it still be easy for a fandom baby to do this now? Or is your feeling that everything's more mixed up? Has fandom in general got a higher rating now?
