If it's one of those we just got together, let's bang fics, I need at least one mention of a condom or I feel uncomfortable reading. But if it's an established couple, depending on how detailed the sex is I don't mind it when it's forgone.

I read mostly DC comics Roy Harper/Dick Grayson fic.

The idea of them not using protection kind of terrifies me.

I actually read one fic where it explicitly mentions that all the baseline human vigilanties get tested for various diseases and infections (including STIs) so frequently due to the frequent blood exposure when beating up bad guys that many of them don't use condoms unless pregnancy is an issue (and other methods of birth control aren't in place).

I also read another one where the frequent blood exposure thing was brought up as a reason to always, always where condoms because their risk of infection was so high.

Me too. Or else I need a quick discussion of why it isn't necessary. I can make exceptions for settings where condoms don't exist or people wouldn't be likely to use them (like m/m pre-AIDS crisis), though.
