Yeah, but I'm fortunate enough to have a full-time job with health insurance which meets my financial needs in a way freelance writing probably would not.

Maybe OP doesn't. *shrug* Not all writers do, that's for sure. Or maybe the job they do have doesn't leave them with a lot of disposable income. Besides, if people buy your book, that is also a form of positive feedback, in a way. Especially if people *keep* buying it.

And I'm fortunate to be married to someone with all of that so I can stay home and raise my kid.

Doesn't mean the extra money from selling the occasional piece of fiction isn't nice.
