After a while, I wasn't sure what I was trying to say, either. Initially, I was going to end by saying that this leaves me unsure how to react to some works, like El Goonish Shive (I have arguments for why it's not really transphobic, even though seemingly everyone else thinks it is, but I'm not sure those arguments hold water.) Then I realized that, well, I do have a reaction to El Goonish Shive, and I already know it's not the socially approved one, and the whole thing sort of fell apart.

how do people see it as transphobic, if you don't mind my asking? I've been reading EGS for a long time, and I never got that feeling?

I don't even remember, to be honest--it's been more than a year since I last read anyone else's ideas about the comic. Ask the folks on TV Tropes; they'll give you an earful.
