(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)I can't help but wonder about how much of these types of video is based on the fandom's reputation though. I've seen tons of insane rants about really nitpicky things over the years. A 10 page dissertation on how first-person view in Fallout 3 was truly the damnation of the "absolutely perfect" games that were fallout 1 and 2. An entire essay on why Peter Jackson's depiction of the Balrog was proof that he was purposely trying to ruin the Lord of the Rings books because he knew he couldn't live up to Tolkein's divinely inspired writings. Hell, I remember getting into arguments over the internet in the early 90's with a gentleman that insisted that mouse controls would ruin PC first person shooters, "FOREVER!!". In the end, I think Sonic's reputation is what we end up with when the sane people have jumped ship and all that's left are the loud and slightly crazy people, without, it's like one giant echo-chamber that magnifies the negative until that's all people on the outside can see.
Still, if it gives us videos like that, then I can't complain too much.
