It really isn't?

I mean, yes, directors *direct* your acting, amongst other things, but it's not really a power imbalance relationship, or it certainly does not have to be.
It's generally not a director who has the power to fire or hire you, especially once you've already been cast. It's not like your main star is going to be laid off halfway shooting because he won't smooch the director.

(Actually, it's more common for assistant directors to "climb up" through affairs with directors, than for actors)

ayrt

Well, maybe not. I'm not familiar with the industry, so I wouldn't know. But weren't people finding it skeevy when Kristen Stewart's director had an affair with her? Or was he a producer? Or was that only about the various infidelities involved?

Whatever. It hits skeevy buttons for me.

I thought it was such a big deal because they were both cheating on their significant others. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were a big name couple, and the director had a wife and kids...

No one cared about the age difference between Stewart and that Snow White movie director, most of the rage was against Stewart and 'HDU CHEAT ON THE GOD THAT IS RPATTZ'.

I'm pretty sure some of the people in the epic discussion here cared about it.
