I mean, if you're in Middle Earth fighting dragons, I can accept you're in a universe where you don't worry about nasty diseases.
But if you have two people hooking up for a one-night stand in modern day New York, it really irks me if the characters are not responsible enough to worry about STD's or unwanted pregnancies.
