There are more professionally-paying markets (five cents a word or more) for short fiction in the SF/F/H genres than the others.

Once you get into novel-length stuff, it's more even, and romance actually accounts for 50% of fiction novel sales. But for short fiction, the markets that actually pay anything are in the SF/F/H genres.
