What's the Harmonian characterization of Hermione?

*curious*

Like Kloves!Hermione, except sweeter and sassier.

Ahahhahahaahha. I don't know what that is either. LOL

I read a ton of HP fic, but I was never in the fandom so it's all disembodied fic on archives without having any sense of the authors or of the fannish conversations that were taking place around any of the works.

Steve Kloves was the main screenwriter for all the Harry Potter movies except the fifth. Hermione was his favorite character and it shows. Painfully. Not to mention he gave most of Harry and Ron's best moments to her, and the dialogue and actions he wrote for her bear about a .05% resemblance to JKR's Hermione.

Oh, that's interesting. What are the main critiques of the way he depicts Hermione?

I have to confess that I've never considered movie!Hermione as substantially different than book!Hermione but then again, I probably don't have as much invested as someone who actually participates in the fandom.

Basically, as a Mary Sue (because of the aforementioned stealing scenes from Harry and Ron that were more suited and characteristic of Harry and Ron), as calm, super-confident and brassy, overly casually badass, a lot of Hermione's book traits like fussiness, anxiety, excitability, enthusiasm, babbling, rambling, stuttering, intensity, distractedness, a tendency to end a lot of her sentence with exclamation points or question marks, are all but entirely absent. Which I guess is also partly the directing and perhaps the acting, but, afaik, it's the actual lines of dialogue that are the ones most at fault.

It's pretty irritating, since Hermione was my favorite character in the books and the fact that her personality and voice is extremely, extremely distinctive was a big part of that. (Then again, I have re-read all the books about 20 times at least since I was eight...)

I'm sorry you were disappointed. It sucks when a film adaptation doesn't live up to your expectations. :(

Eh, it was a while ago so I don't really care anymore, but I vividly remember all the complaints I had ;)

NYART. What intrigueing said, plus "hot as hell". For all the accusations Ginny got about being a Mary Sue, it was Hermione who kept being turned into the stand-in Sue and the "got curves in all the right places during summer"-treatment in fic.

Oh, and always morally right. Which was usually done by turning the Weasleys into horrible eeeevuuuul cardboard cutouts. Hermione dating three people including her True Love? A-OK! Ginny doing the same? She's the village bicycle.

This is why I haven't been able to enjoy H/Hr for a long time. :/

I am definitely not a fan of character-bashing stories. I will admit to reading them sometimes for lolz (really? Molly Weasley eats babies for breakfast? really?) or because I like other elements of the story and can ignore the character bashing, but I really do not like. I can get behind stories that subvert Dumbledore's character if they show him as a nuanced character and not just cartoony villain evil, and I have read one or two good stories that play on Ginny's possession by Voldemort and subvert her character that way, but overall I do not endorse the Ron is a Death-Eater nonsense.

I haven't read a lot of Harry/Hermione. Most of the Harry/Hermione I've read was OT3 and included Ron.
