This is all true, but

"I think this is true of both the way that TV Tropes tends to think of tropes - they tend to be regarded as far more set in stone and rigid than they ever are in actuality - and in terms of the way that tropes are used in analyzing works of media - tropes are given too much importance and centrality as a unit of analysis"

TV Tropes doesn't do analysis. They don't want to. They say it distracts from the mission of the site. (Yeah, I don't know wtf either. vOv) The admin doesn't want analysis, some of the mods don't want analysis and the ones who want can't do anything about it, and a big chunk of the people in the forum regulars don't want analysis or just don't care. I (and other people too) got banned for arguing about this (i.e., Me and the banned: wanted actual analysis, among other things [like banning the people who kept bringing the creepy rape/pedo- excuse me, ephebophilia stuff to the site]; TV Tropes: no analysis), but one of the forum regulars honestly admitted that they just want to make Lists Of Things That Happened In Media and the admin and mods in the thread didn't deny this and ended up shutting the discussion after fruitless back and forths.

They honestly don't give a shit about the Hows and Whys of the things they document, they just want to document their incidence, with no regards for notability.

Well, I can't really see the problem with keeping it brief and descriptive, documenting incidence and leaving the notability thing to Wikipedia or what have you. If that's what Fast Eddie wants the site to be, than that's what it's going to be. He literally owns TvTropes, or at least he pays for the server space, is the and does all the coding and other tech stuff that needs fixing and improving, which must be the closest thing possible to owning a site where the users provide the content. Complaining because a site isn't something it isn't seems a bit unnecessary to me?

Anyway, I thought they did remove the pedo- and ephebophilia, declare pedophiles unwelcome on the site, and create the Analysis namespace for, well, analysis.

Also, unless things changed drastically after I left, which I doubt, the mods there really only ban people who are doing damage to the wiki or being assholes to someone. I've seen people get banned for being assholes to mods while arguing with them before, and not just on TvTropes, just saying.
