I'm appreciating the fan service with my self-awareness entirely intact. And why shouldn't I? How many female characters were written by men for men with no other purpose than being eye candy? There are a hundred things to criticise about the blatant objectification of either gender, but calling women self-unaware is a pretty big double standard.

That said, Kili is probably hideous by Dwarf standards. I bet on Dwarf ONTD, they'd call the line of Durin inbred royalty or something ("nhf no beard, tbh" - "srsly, nagl at all").

Balin, on the other hand, would be the Dwarf equivalent of George Clooney, and Gloin the ruggedly handsome rock star.
