Agreed. I cannot count the number of fics where Derek says one sentence and everyone around him flails wildly about how ~*THAT'S MORE THAN WE'VE EVER HEARD YOU SAY PUT TOGETHERRRR*~ when... I mean, he's relatively taciturn, but he's not, as you say, a monosyllabic robot. (I find it particularly absurd in AUs, especially ones where Laura is alive or the Hale fire didn't happen.)
