Nah, there are lots of passages in the original Hobbit book along the lines of "their journey was uneventful as they traveled through several villages", "they stayed in [place] for [length of time]" (obviously not direct quotes). Those would be boring to film, so you'd either have to cut them (leading to lots of timeskips) or flesh them out (leading to muuuch more material). In this case, I really prefer the latter, since I liked the first movie and don't mind there being two more in the least.
