Chris Li is a m-pop singer who's been around since 2005 ish, as a winner of a Idol type of show. Her won was controversial because she present herself as androgynous, tomboyish, and it's something really different from rest of the female pop stars of China as we see being extremely feminine as some sort of women's duty.

I was still in China then, and unlike here in Canada where at least most people know what non-straight people are, when I grew up we never knew that. Chris Li pretty much made half of the girls my age started to wonder if we are at least a *bit* bi, if not flat out gay. Much of her fan base are girls too, who found her handsome and dreamy and all that.

People have assumed that she's a lesbian or whatever for years, and she's never in or out of any closet beside it's pretty much known that she never publicly dated men. So it's kind of like Ricky Martin or Mika, in a way she's my lesbian idol but at the same time, because she never explicitly stated she's lesbian I feel wrong about already headcanon that onto her.

This has nothing to do with wanting to be with a celebrity because come on, improbable stuff.

tl;dr: if she's straight, cool; if she's gay, cool; either way it's her business which way she goes or if she wants to announce it. She's a bit of my lesbian idol though because of how I perceived her, hence I'm secretly hoping she's at least bi.

I'm a lesbian and I know what you mean. On one hand, it's not anyone's business what a celebrity's sexual orientation is, and more than that, it doesn't matter. It's not like these people are potential dating partners to us anyway. On the other hand, it's always nice to see yourself represented - especially by, might I say, super attractive people. When we fangirl over celebrities I don't think it's that much different inherently than fanning over fictional characters - so of course we create "headcanon". But we also have to remember that these are real people who are what they are, regardless of what we want them to be, and it's disrespectful to try to insist otherwise.

Sooo I understand, I'm always happy when a celebrity comes out as lesbian because there's just not enough representation out there, even though it shouldn't matter. I didn't know this particular woman prior to your secret but...

Yes this! Especially when they come across as really really, I apologise for the term but, almost "glass closet" like? But I hate the idea of forcing people to come out, as well as pre emptively assuming their sexual orientations because of a few stereotypically gay traits.
