And I guess I didn't mean 'whiner' so much as her character as a whole is too emo for my taste.

Emo = genre of music started in the 1980s.
There you go again, saying something that is not true to the character. If you're going to hate on a character, at least talk of an aspect that is true.
Orihime was your stereotypical, "genki" type of female character in the beginning. She had a shitty life but she didn't wallow in self pity. Only after she sees how powerful everyone else around her has gotten after saving Rukia, it's only natural for her, who doesn't even have the will to kill someone, to feel inferior to them. However, this only begins after about twenty volumes of the manga. Then guess what? She gets taken to Hueco Mundo, where Ulquiorra is trying to break her psychologically, she (sort of? O_o) witnesses everybody dying one by one (besides Renji and Ishida) and then she gets beaten up by an Arrancar for no reason.
She's not being "emo". It's called depression. Losing the will to do anything because at this moment, she feels everything is her fault. And until Noitra and Tesla showed up, Orihime was pretty much back to her usual self in recent chapters.

I don't really care what her reason is. I'm kinda sorry I don't like her. In all honesty, I wish I did, because she's one that actually identifies with me on a very important aspect of my life, but I just don't like her. I don't care if you think the way I refer to her doesn't mirror her personality. It's the way I percieve it, and I don't see my views on her changing.
