I've never read this series (and I've never heard anything but positive things about it), but I'm interested to hear what this "weird misogyny" is. Specifically, what makes it "weird" as opposed to plain old misogyny?

Or the below one that sums it up perfectly: Women are some terrifying alien species.

There are a LOT of women in the books, and most of them are very powerful in one way or another but at the end of the day, they're all written as a collective of bizarre creatures that men will never truly understand because they are so different and wily and subtle and manipulative and who knows what goes on in the minds of women, etc...

As someone else said, it's kind of like the misogyny of an old, beloved relative. It's not aggressive or hateful, and he sure means well, but it's still kinda uncomfortable and not quite right.

It's a little more subtle, which is a confusing point for a lot of people. Women aren't portrayed as physically weak or constantly barefoot and pregnant. Instead, they're portrayed as emasculating harpies who manipulate and browbeat the menfolk, and the men are just helpless boys who have no choice but to take it because gosh, teh wimmenz are sooooo confusing.

Readers get tripped up because they're like but but but look at how many "strong" female characters there are and how they have shiny magic! Yeah. And all the woman are conspiratorial, man-eating bitches, how very enlightened.
