It was at least 18 years ago that I started trying to read the series, and I remember liking the first book alright but just completely losing interest in the second.

I say if you're trying that hard, and it's just not working, you can give it up with no guilt. You gave it a try, and it just wasn't for you. :)

Once I start reading it, and provided I keep going instead of stopping, I like it all right, or at least hate it less blindingly. It's just the getting started that sucks...

I keep telling myself I should just call it as not gonna happen, but my husband and a lot of our friends really like the series, and I really enjoy having shared books between friends.

But I still might have to accept this as a no go. :)

Yeah, my brother enjoys the series and some other people I know as well, but I just can't be motivated to read it. LOL
