That is exactly my entire point. They said

"destroying the property of people who don't do what we want is just what we want to teach kids"

But my point is that the act of doling out a punishment is so different than the very vague and encompassing "Destroying the property of people who don't do what we want". In that vein, taking your kids phone for a week is wrong because it's also wrong to steal someone's phone.
