Which does them absolutely no fucking good before they've reached an age where they're legally allowed to earn money. Depending on child labour laws, that means that there is at least a decade and usually a decade and a half where everything they own comes from someone else, and they have no means to change that.

It's important that people learn to stand on their own feet. But when circumstances exist that mean they can't, the lesson should not be 'while you're weak people will take things from you and no-one will protect you'.

What, having a child do chores for a weekly allowance is now child labor? That's how I got spending money when I was a kid, and I didn't do chores - I didn't get money. It wasn't hard to figure out that connection.

No, but it's still dependant on someone else. You have no independant, legally protected means of acquiring money. There are no laws in place saying someone has to pay you to do your chores, the way there are laws in place that someone has to pay you for working as an adult. If the person giving you money for chores decides to stop, you've no means to object.

It's not an independant or protected income. You cannot rely on it, and you have no means to protect it.
