Kids get attached to their toys. They love them. Depending on the age of the child, many of them don't see their toys as things or inanimate objects, but as actual living friends. My cousin is six, and her Barbie has a personality. She doesn't say "I won't do that with my Barbie," she says "Clara wouldn't do that." In their minds, toys have agency and life of their own. They are alive.
Breaking a toy that a child cherishes to that degree would be like beating their puppy to death in front of them. Why the fuck would you ever think that was okay?
