I don't mean to sound insensitive, but welcome to 49 years of Who fandom. The show revolves around the juxtaposition of change and sameness, and its trade is in the beauty of transient things - that forever and permanence has nothing to do with worth.

(Also, Amy's nothing like Donna, apart from having red hair and a short temper, and her short temper is a very different sort of short temper than Donna's)

Yup. I've actually been watching Who for awhile. I used to watch old episodes with my dad when I was little. But for some reason Donna is the only one that really got to me like that. I'm usually all for dramatic change and shifts and all that.

And it doesn't matter if Amy is anything like Donna or not. Emotions being illogical and all.

I had the good fortune of being spoiled about what happened to Donna before I watched Journey's End, so thankfully it didn't hit me as hard as it would have otherwise. But yeah, it still sometimes hurts to realize that Donna's never coming back permanently. She just...really didn't get enough, IMO. She deserved another season, she deserved to live up to her full potential in a non-DoctorDonna context, or at least get a better ending, some kind of closure. :(
